Source: Air Bubble Shield For Dangerous Smog To Be Tested In Beijing – Bloomberg Business

BEIJING—A device that creates an “air bubble” designed to shield people against as much as 70% of the most harmful airborne particulate matter will debut next month in Beijing, as China’s capital battles thick smog that often enshrouds the city. The outdoor air purifier features a canopy and creates an area protected by an air curtain to cover around 20 people. It was designed by London-based engineering firm Arup Group, and a unit of Hong Kong property developer Sino Group. The prototype of the “outdoor air purifier” is to be used in Beijing’s Tsinghua University beginning in June. The partnering companies have fielded queries from owners of commercial buildings and government officials who are interested in having the technology retrofitted onto building canopies and facades, and are looking at ways to ramp-up production to commercialize the device.
