Largest Solar Farm on U.S. Public Property Comes Online

DESERT CENTER, Calif.—U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell and Director of the Bureau of Land Management Neil Kornze recently led a ceremony to “flip the switch” on the Desert Sunlight Solar Farm, the United States’ largest solar project on public lands. Already operating at full capacity, the Desert Sunlight solar farm provides 550 MW of electricity to the grid, enough energy to power 160,000 average homes. The facility also is estimated to displace 614,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year. It serves customers in Riverside County, Calif., which spans from the Greater Los Angeles area to the Arizona border.
