BRUSSELS—Carbon dioxide reportedly is gaining favor as a cooling medium in IT and data center applications. A 105 kW system for telecom company Bell Canada, a German office building that includes a 400 m2 (4300 ft2) data center, as well as facilities in Zurich and Beijing are among the recent installations that feature CO2 cooling. The installations include complementary technologies such as a proprietary “free cooling” method, geothermal cooling, heat-cold coupling and designs customized for heat dissipation.
